At St Margaret's we believe in allowing children opportunities to flourish in lots of different ways. One of the ways in which we encourage children to develop is by offering different leadership opportunities throughout their time with us. Some of these are listed below. 

House captains and deputies - children in Blossom Class are invited to stand for election as House Captain. They prepare a speech which is shared with their house and the children in the house then vote. House captains for the following academic year are elected in May so that the outgoing House Captains are able to provide support and training for them. The House Captains and their deputies lead regular house meetings where they gather the views of all the children in school. Sometimes, a particular theme is directed by school staff if we are trying to find out specific information, sometimes this is an open forum. 

Play leaders - children in Blossom Class are invited to register as play leaders at the school. One is appointed as senior play leader. The senior play leader oversees the other play leaders and also liaises closely with the school's play co-ordinator, Mr Jones. Worship group - We invite children from Key Stage 2 to join our Pupil Worship group. One child is elected as the Pupil worship group lead. The group independently leads a minimum of three whole school worship sessions across the school year, supported by the school's Worship lead, Mrs Newland. They are also responsible for evaluating worship in school. 

Librarians - Children in Blossom Class are invited to become librarians and support the school by keeping the library in an inviting state. There is one head librarian who liaises with the member of staff with responsibility for the library, Miss Ashman. They also manage the rota for other librarians. 

School Council - The school council is made up of the House Captains and their deputies, the senior play leader, the head librarian and the Pupil Worship group lead. They meet regularly with a member of staff to bring the views of the pupils and share concerns and ideas. They also organise events. 

Clubs - Children in Blossom Class are invited to run clubs at lunchtimes for the younger pupils in the school. These are organised with the headteacher. 

Buddies - Children in Year 6 are buddies for the reception children. Prior to the summer holidays, the year 6 buddies write a letter to their reception buddy to introduce themselves and welcome them to the school. The year 6 buddies then meet their reception buddies at one of the transition visits. They then support them when they start school in September.
