Pupil Premium Funding

This page provides information about the Pupil Premium funding allocated to St Margaret’s C of E Primary School over the last academic year and outlines how this funding has been used to support our pupils.

What is the Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to publicly funded schools in England. Its purpose is to improve outcomes for disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to help close the attainment gap between them and their peers.

Pupil Premium funding is available to a range of educational settings, including:

  • Local authority maintained schools
  • Special schools and non‑maintained special schools
  • Pupil Referral Units
  • Academies and Free Schools
  • Special Academies
  • Alternative Provision, including voluntary sector provision

Funding: Financial Year 2026–2027

In the 2026–2027 financial year, schools receive:

  • £1,550 for each child who has been eligible for free school meals at any point in the past six years

Schools also receive £2,690 for each pupil who:

  • Is identified in the January school census as being looked after by the local authority, or
  • Has left local authority care due to:
    • Adoption
    • A Special Guardianship Order
    • A Child Arrangements Order
  • Has been in local authority care for one day or more
  • Is recorded as both eligible for free school meals within the past six years and as being, or having been, looked after

Service Pupil Premium

In the 2026–2027 financial year, schools receive £360 for each eligible service child.

The Service Pupil Premium is provided to support children and young people with parents in the armed forces. Pupils attract this funding if:

  • One of their parents is serving in the regular armed forces
  • They have been recorded as a ‘service child’ in the school census at any point in the past six years
  • One of their parents died while serving in the armed forces and the pupil receives a pension under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme or the War Pensions Scheme

How We Use Pupil Premium Funding at St Margaret’s

At St Margaret’s, we recognise that challenging socio‑economic circumstances can present additional barriers to learning. However, we strongly believe that with the right support, care and expectations, these barriers can be overcome.

We take a clear, tiered approach to the use of our Pupil Premium funding. This includes:

  • Ensuring all children benefit from high‑quality classroom teaching
  • Providing targeted academic support where needed
  • Offering wider strategies to address non‑academic barriers, such as social, emotional and behavioural support

Our identification of need is rooted in careful assessment, not assumptions. Our staff are experts in knowing our children as individuals, not labels. We believe that every interaction matters and that every child should feel a strong sense of belonging, confidence and ownership within our school community.

Our Core Values of friendship, fairness, honesty, courage, respect and effort are central to our approach and work alongside our school Code of Conduct: Be Kind, Be Safe, Be Responsible.

We are committed to ensuring that all children have access to enriching experiences and wider opportunities that enhance learning and personal development. Where children are unable to access these opportunities outside of school, we ensure they are provided through our broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum and through our range of after‑school clubs and activities.

Free School Meals and Pupil Premium Eligibility

If your child does not currently receive free school meals but may be eligible due to your family’s income, please contact the school office in confidence. Even if you choose not to take up the meals themselves, registering your child enables the school to receive additional Pupil Premium funding which can be used to support your child’s learning and well‑being.

Please be assured that no child is singled out for receiving Pupil Premium funding, and pupils are not aware of who receives this additional support.
